Re: Audrey's house: Hugh & Rafe
When Hugh relaxed, even if only a little, Rafe picked up on it, but he kept himself from smiling because this was neither the time nor the place. They were here for a very serious reason and smiling, seemingly at nothing, wouldn't sit right with anyone who didn't know why the expression had come to his face. But still, it was a good thing, and the wolf agreed that it was an improvement. If they were dealing with something completely supernatural then at least Hugh was in the right kind of company. Things might go a little south if Rafe had to reveal any part of his true nature but he would do it if it meant keeping them both alive and in one piece. He didn't think that would be necessary, at least not for the time being from the signs he was getting out here, but when it came to Repose? There really was no telling.
With a nod Rafe acknowledged Hugh's decision to go along with him, and with that decided he started in the direction of the back yard, even as the other man said the words that encouraged him to do so. The wolf huffed, far from impressed by the implication that it would need anyone's permission to proceed. Rafe made his way up the drive and to the shallow gate and fence that enclosed the backyard. With a glance he confirmed there was no lock of any kind and deftly he flicked the latch to let both himself and Hugh into the modest yard. Discreetly, making it look like nothing more than a run-of-the-mill deep breath, Rafe drew in the scents of the yard and decided rather quickly that Audrey hadn't been on this part of the property nearly as recently as she had the front path. He looked to the back door and saw that it was undamaged and the edges of it were flush with the frame. The same could be said of the windows. No broken glass or other signs of forced entry. He swept his gaze over the grass, the few plants, the tree, what few furnishings they had, and then to the shed. Locked, and undisturbed. Just like the rest of the yard. Nothing looked out of place.
"I can't see anything back here," he said to Hugh, turning to look at the other man. Hugh had said he hadn't seen the yard in the day, if at all, so chances were slim that he would notice anything that Rafe himself had missed. "It doesn't look like anything's been taken or moved. And it's secure." He indicated the windows and door with a simple gesture of one hand. "I'm guessing the key you have is for the front door?" And it was probably best to enter the house the same way Audrey herself had.
