"I know," she said of him being freaked out. She'd been watching as he glanced over, as he looked in the gauzy light of the dashboards. She'd given him a smile when he mentioned the diners and hotels, but she'd stayed quiet and waited for whatever came next, because she knew him, and she knew it would come if she just waited for it. And so it did. "I freaked out too," she admitted, because it was safe to now, on the highway, no one around but them. "Maybe not greasy food and bad hotels, though," she corrected, nose crinkling. "We'll rent an apartment. Someplace that feels good and right and bright," she said, because she'd liked being in a real house, before it went wrong. "Do you want to live with me?" she asked him, and it wouldn't be looked down on, right? Mars and Jamie lived together.
