To be fair to Si, this was better than the alternative of her not telling him. Self-loathing was a much bigger trigger than anxiety and panic, for him. If she'd needed him and hadn't reached out, because she didn't think he could take it—and worse, if something happened because of that—it would be worse. Sure, he was on pins and needles made of glass, but it would pass. Eventually, it would. He just needed to believe that, which was hard in the face of blind panic.
He managed half a laugh, something small and barely audible, but there, when she talked about the things they'd do. She squeezed his fingers and he nodded at her. A little ashamed, but, hey, not having to pull over for an anxiety attack, he said: "Sorry."
