Re: [Woods: Atticus & Eames]
Atticus' parents had been the opposite of lazy. Had parents who'd felt strongly that every day was an opportunity to accomplish important things. His mother had been the type of woman who'd woken up each day and dressed perfectly. Makeup, hair, had never seen his mother around the house without looking presentable. His dad, too, had been about action, activity, productivity. Atticus had never been that guy. Liked lounging around in bed with coffee and a book. Liked sleeping until noon. Was nothing like them, and had never been.
But sex was the topic of conversation. "Not a bad system," he said of knowing who was sleeping with who. Had learned already that who was sleeping with who was a big deal in Repose. Had been a thing in New York, too, and the Capital, but not like it was here. Blamed the fact that it was a small town, people were bored, and the town's oddities often left people feeling like they needed to feel alive and distracted; sex was good for feeling alive and distracted. "But 'meant to be sleeping with someone else?' Who makes that decision? Think if they're sleeping with you, then that's their choice. Sounds precariously close to the concept of owning someone," he mused idly. Did sound like that, odd duck or no odd duck.
Chuckled as he reached out and toyed with the lip of his empty bottle. "Can agree with that." With Janus not giving information out. "Think he was more mad about Steve. Would be interested to know the man. Sounds like he was interesting. Dad knew him. Not personally, but historically," he said of Steve. "Janus sounds like he had him on a pedestal." His smile was idle, lazy. "Doesn't make you jealous?" Lifted a shoulder. "Like talking. Don't have information to splash about, really. Not now, anyway. Haven't been to Mumbai, though. Would like to. Always wanted to travel." Had seemed like a good fit with his no-ties way of life, but had never found the time. Wasn't going anywhere now, either. Knew himself well enough to know that Repose contained enough of interest to keep him here.
