Gaze aversion was also something Damian did not practice. His chin remained elevated as he approached and he peered down his nose (metaphorically) at the boy for the entire duration. His eye did briefly wander to where the cigarette was snagged by pink lips, but this, as I mentioned, was brief. He allowed himself, too, the latitude to consider his own reaction to the sight of this person he was said to have known so intimately. Damian was not stupid, and he did remember his own odd sensations of familiarity under streetlamps not so long ago. That made it all the more disturbing.
With not a single word, Damian held out his phone. It bore the photograph Leena had provided.
