Re: time jump! adrian's place; dietre & hugh
Sieglinde’s tail wagged with gusto, her whole back end getting into it. Noone ever came to visit, so Hugh’s appearance was quite exciting. Dietre watched, then smiled when he thought she seemed to be looking around after a moment, as if she expected Heart to show up too. Her doggy friend wasn’t there, but she was not too disappointed since Hugh lavished attention upon her. She let out a little bark to say hello herself, then trotted over to Dietre so that he could pet her some too.
Dietre straightened after scratching Sieglinde behind the ears when Hugh made his decision. Music first, then dancing. “Alright then,” Dietre agreed, pulling out the piano bench and settling down upon it. “Feel free to sit where you like.” A pause, then he added, bravely (though he kept his eyes on the piano instead of turning to look at Hugh), “Or you could join me.” There was plenty of room on the bench, but he’d leave it up to Hugh.
As usual, he felt no need to warm up, he just went right into the music. Because they talked about it before, he began with the prologue to Beauty and the Beast. It was very close to what was heard in the film, only adjusted to be played solely on the piano rather than an orchestra. Dietre's memory was very good, the melody was instantly recognizable, and he couldn't help but be pleased with himself.
The piece was very short, so rather than wait for comment when he finished, he only flashed Hugh a smile and kept playing. Chopin. Nocturne No. 2. Delicate and beautiful, romantic with just a hint of sadness. Dietre’s playing was full of emotion, and though he had been all nervous smiles and pink stained cheeks earlier that night, his expression while he played was calm. Serene. He was where he belonged, doing what he was meant to do, how could he be anything else?
