Re: lakeside mansion; hugh c. & dietre a.
The two of them seemed intent on expanding more and more on a fantasy, falling down a rabbit hole of very obvious date ideas despite not actually dating. Dietre’s brows arched again at Hugh saying he should also sing during the dance. “Being serenaded while dancing… That sounds like something from one of your movies.” He was teasing, but not really, he wasn’t knocking the idea at all. It was all too easy to envision a scene that’d make anyone’s heart flutter.
Hugh’s hand unexpectedly found his and Dietre felt his face grow warm again. His fingers closed loosely around the other man's after they were squeezed, Hugh would be able to pull his hand free if he wanted to, though Dietre hoped he wouldn’t. What kind of man was Hugh? Dietre could have showered him with many genuine, heartfelt compliments, but that felt too risky. Everything happening between them now was dangerous enough already. Instead, he kept his answer light and sweet. “...A guy who enjoys romantic film nonsense?”
“What sort of guy am I then, do you think, for putting up with it?” Curiosity got the better of him. That and his need for validation, as well as, perhaps, to get some insight on what Hugh thought of him.
