Re: [Above Webster's, in Daniel's place: Hannah & Daniel, + Si.]
Endocarditis, ending with a slight heart murmur. That was what affected his heart rhythms. He knew about it in the way people know about their medical issues that don't generally impede on their daily life. Yeah, it was there, but he couldn't see it and didn't think about it. He wasn't even paying attention to the strange caricature of a gentleman in the kitchen, still going through his cupboards. Si's attention was wholly on his sister. She was giving him a look he knew and understood, but that he decided to ignore. "No." Si could be stubborn. Very stubborn, in fact, when he put his foot down, and he was doing that here.
Amy was babbling, and while it probably mattered, Si couldn't bring himself to care. He bent at the knee and, taking the blanket up with her, lifted his sister in his arms as if she were a bride. If she protested, he didn't listen. He was doing what he wished he'd done at their last disastrous tea party, and he wasn't going to be swayed by an expectation of politeness.—Whatever his twin sister was saying about being dead, Si wasn't listening to either, except to refute, with: "You're not dead either."—He cast Daniel the barest of glances and only then did he notice the waxy stillness of the man's expression. Something about it was terrifying to Si. "We're going. Thanks." And he made for the door.
