Yeah, pretty much. I read this thing once that compared it to a ball in a box and every time the ball touched the wall it would cause you to feel 'grief'. When the loss is near it's a big ball and a small box, so the ball is always hitting the walls and always making you feel grief, but as you move further from the loss and learn how to better cope with your own shit the ball gets smaller and the box gets bigger. So the ball doesn't hit the walls as much anymore, it still does sometimes and it still makes you feel those pangs, but they're not as hard to deal with anymore either, you know?
I don't think I explained it well, it made a lot of sense when I read it though.
