Re: lakeside mansions: Dietre A. & Hugh C.
The whole story was on the verge of coming out, the dark days after Aleski left, the pills, the bridge, being sent back to Quiet Home… Then Hugh nudged him with his foot and Dietre was able to shove it all back into place. It was still too early for any of that, he and Hugh were just beginning to be friends. He wanted to be sure, absolutely sure, that the man’s opinion of him wouldn’t be tarnished by his secrets.
Dietre returned Hugh’s nudge with one of his own and tried to smile though his eyes were still miserable. “I guess so…” He drew his knees up to his chest and hugged them. “I just wish all the false starts wouldn’t take so much out of me.” A thoughtful frown. “Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if I had more friends to begin with…”
“I think I’m in danger of undoing all the good of our yoga session,” he said suddenly, sitting up with a determined set to his jaw. “Perhaps we should go see if Sieglinde has torn the upstairs apart while left to her own devices?” Sieglinde would never, she was a good dog, but Dietre wanted an excuse to turn away from the topic of conversation he’d started.
