Re: lakeside mansions: Dietre A. & Hugh C.
Dietre’s expression hardened. Maybe there was some anger there after all. “...And sometimes they choose drugs over you and end up drowning in the lake.” He heaved a deep sigh before softening back into his usual melancholy. “But I’m over that bit. ...Mostly.” It’d be easier if Liam didn’t keep turning back up in his life, like a bad penny. Death was between them now, and Dietre didn’t think there was anything he could do about it without Misha or Nilus around anymore. It seemed all the angels had left Repose, leaving only demons behind.
Hugh poured himself into his roles and Dietre poured himself into his music. They each had their crutches then, didn’t they? The thought was almost enough to make him smile, but his earlier levity was gone, their talk had gotten too serious.
Being asked outright about who he lost shook Dietre despite expecting it to come sooner or later. A ripple of pain moved across his features before they settled into a look of sorrow. “...I had someone, yes. Just for a little while, a few months, really.” It seemed longer somehow, but also like the blink of an eye.
“Aleksi.” He had to pause after saying the werewolf’s name. There was a tremor in his voice when he continued. “But he wasn’t from here… He had to go back. And I couldn’t go with him…”
