Rey was not the whole town: she was the sort of wholesome girl whose boyfriend or husband would betray her by visiting hookerville, whose family owned the summer house on the lake that Hannah cleaned. (That Hannah did clean, though neither of them knew it.) Nobody told fresh-faced girls about hookerville, even if they did suppose she was secretly married to her cousin.
"Audrey's very kind," Rey said. "I like her a lot, and I'm glad she's got a good friend to live with her now. Do you want me to come in and come up and sit with you for a while after I've come in and given her my housewarming gift? It'll take me a minute to explain the gifts; it's a custom from the country where I grew up."
