Re: Kitchen: Hugh & Hannah & Zee
She was about to leave, about to usher him off to find whatever corner Audrey had hidden herself in, but then there was someone there, and Hannah turned to look at the woman with the mask. The woman had darker hair than her own, and the woman was slight, and Hannah's dress dragged along the floor and past her be'socked toes as she regarded the newcomer with a curious tip of her head.
The woman was pretty. She was interesting, which Hannah thought might even be better than pretty. Hannah thought the woman looked like she would have interesting things to say.
At first, she thought it was just someone come to grab a plate, someone Audrey knew from somewhere, someone she hadn't yet met herself. But then there was Hugh, and there was Hugh's expression, and he was beckoning the woman over, and Hannah understood that this was Zee. Before Hugh even said Zee's name, and Hannah looked at her from her small height, and she smiled warmly. Cornflower eyes warm and inviting, and, no, Zee wasn't interrupting anything at all. And Hannah didn't think about the sight she presented, there and messy hair, old, old dress hanging down, down to the floor.
"Hi," she told Zee, and her smile fluttered from the woman to Hugh, back again, and her unfocused gaze was bright. "I've been hoping to meet you," she said, affirming Hugh's comment that he'd promised to bring the other woman, to bring Zee by the carnival. "I'm glad I didn't have to wait until work and a carnival crowd, though you should both still come. It's fun, and loud, and bright, and welcome to Repose," she told Zee, thoughts lighting from one to another, not stopping for pauses or segues.
