Re: Basement: Audrey, Hannah, and Si
Her heart would have ached for them as children. Hugs and kisses belonged to everyone, and while she didn't have bent necked ladies or things that followed, she did know what it was like to be minimized. There were no hugs and kisses for Audrey as she aged from a toddler. Speak up. Do better. Listen to your mother. Don't complain. Do something with your life. Until orders and comments only occasionally broke the deafening silenced she was drenched in, an invisible place where the wallflowers belong while the rest of their family blossomed.
No, they did not look as twins were often portrayed. Hannah was slender, whispers and whimsy while Si was tall and solid. Hannah radiated, and Si did too, but different. There were wild fires and then there was a hearth. She studied his face in her own way. There was a kindness hidden in his smile, but his eyes were deep and sad, he shared that with his sister too, when she thought no one was looking and her mind wandered away and away. It glittered in the back and pooled just below the surface, a blink and it was gone. Yes, despite the fact they didn't look alike she knew there was a bond, a hand on Hannah's shoulder didn't need to tell her that.
If she knew what they thought of her in appearance and in person she would be parts embarrassed and flattered. Flattered to be compared to something as hopeful as spring, embarrassed she looked so young. That could be a hindrance in certain areas of life should she ever pluck up enough courage. Her heavy lashed eyes darted to Hannah's promise, and she smiled, appreciative of the care her roommate took in knowing her. Audrey hoped beyond hope she could do the same. She blinked when Hannah whispered her non whisper. It was late. She got like this at times. It was as if the ticking of the clock also ticked away whatever tied her down to earth. Audrey allowed herself to be tugged forward and gave Hannah another smile, no it was not worried or condescending, or that baffled look strangers and even friends would give. She understood, perhaps, and leaned in giving the tiniest kiss to her friend's right cheek. "Until Edward restores us to ourselves." She replied back.
Her free hand went into Si's, small, warm and his were long and warm. She didn't say anything about addiction or the sallow of recovery under his eyes. She squeezed, shaking. "It's really nice to meet the King of Sarcasm. " Her lips turned up deepening into a grin.
