Re: Basement: Audrey, Hannah, and Si
She'd asked around. She hadn't seen where Audrey had gone, but she knew she was here somewhere, and she knew her roommate well enough now to know that Audrey was probably hiding somewhere. It was later now, and even Hannah was a little bit overwhelmed by people. She spent every single night in a crowd, and this wasn't anything like that, but there were walls here, and it wasn't work, and it was different. But it was late, and she had reached that point in the evening where being like everyone else was harder. Dreamy, and she'd found her shawl, and it trailed off one shoulder and behind her. Also behind her was Si, who she was tug, tug, tugging, so that he could meet Audrey while he still could, since she knew he wouldn't be staying, not yet.
Tug, skip, tug, skip, and blue trailing behind her and kissing the floor with each be'socked step.
Someone pointed at the stairs to the basement, and she worried the corner of her lip and walked to the very top of the stairs that led down and down and into the basement. She listened, and she heard Audrey making that little sound she made when something tasted really good. She took one step, just one, onto the top step, and she let go of Si's hand. He really, really didn't like basements, and she didn't expect him to follow her down. In fact, she didn't even go all the way down herself. One step, two, three, and then she called out. "Audrey? Can you come here for a minute. I want to introduce you to Si," she said, her voice carrying down and down and with that dreamy quality that clung to it thickly in the evenings. But the sentence made sense, and that was really good right now. She was pretty sure she hadn't said nonsense to anyone at all, not yet.
