Re: Near the food: Hugh & Dietre
"I'll do that then," Hugh affirmed. He didn't really know if Dietre would enjoy it. But he seemed to appreciate the arts, and theatre was that, so hopefully it'd be something for him to look forward to for the next few days.
He took a step towards the door with Dietre, as his mind tried to figure out exactly what to say. It was like an elephant in the room now that Audrey had put it in his head, because he hadn't really thought about romance with Dietre specifically. He hadn't not thought about it either - Dietre was handsome - but after last year, and the year before... well as much as Hugh did want someone he was realizing he also was gun shy. He had this tendency to mess things up somehow, and he got the sense that Dietre didn't need someone to mess things up for him. And Hugh was really good at messing shit up. He didn't want to assume that Dietre liked him like that when he had no real evidence to say he did, because that felt really fucking egotistical, but now that he was thinking about it? The reaction tonight, combined with what Audrey had said? maybe it was a coincidence?
He stopped by the door, finding his coat in the closet to reach into it and pull out the flask he'd wanted earlier and then he stepped out into the evening air and took a swig of it before offering it to Dietre.
It was nice to be on the front porch, which in many ways was more the type of front porch Hugh had always wanted. There was a half thought of selling the mansion and buying and fixing up one of the houses in the neighborhood like this. Fresh paint, refinish the floors, take any paint off the woodwork and built ins, and it wouldn't be so large and over-whelming. He'd lose the lake view though, and while he doubted his biological father would care, technically the house was sort of in the dubious land of whom actually owned it? Maybe someday he'd buy a house like this, and it'd be all his.
Where to start was just... well. He couldn't exactly say that he and Zee were just friends, because just friends didn't really cover it generally, but it also was sort of true. And neither of them had been very good at keeping in touch for the past few years. But also... "Zee and I are really old friends," he finally decided on. "We met back at UW, when we were both on the same play together, she was building sets, and I was acting in it, and we hit it off, but we lost touch cause she was in Europe and my life went kind of crazy." Had he talked about the film and the trial with Dietre, he couldn't remember. "She showed up this week and it's been good to catch up."
Hugh shoved his hands in his pockets, and looked over at Dietre trying to decide. "You could come over sometime this week and we could do that yoga thing too if you still want to?"
