"Yeah, I know how you feel," Alex agreed. It sounded entirely too familiar. "When I lived in the trailer park like all the furniture was...y'know. Included." Literally, bolted to the trailer. "So when I moved in above the shop it was like...I had Holly an' Noah's old bed an that was about it. Having a real bed is the best." Especially if you don't think about what Holly and Noah might have used it for.
Alex started putting together his milkshake with generous amounts of peanut butter and - what the hell, why not? - chocolate sprinkles. "I didn't think I'd stay here so long either. But I been here a year now, and...like, really good with that y'know?" He laughed at Ren's paranoia, but then remembered Mal's very real version of the same. "It's like...probably 50/50 that you were being spied on. You don't hafta be that important. Someone just has to be interested." He laughed again, because damn that sounded darker than he'd meant it to.
