Re: Foot of the stairs: Burden/Audrey
Audrey was nervous. That seemed to be her factory setting. Somehow, she convinced herself, when God gave her the breath of life--he forgot to turn down that particular setting. So here she was; an easily jittery bundle of nerves and whatever else made her up. She was getting ready in her room still. She chose a rather simple costume. Violet Baudelaire. The books had been part of her child and Violet was someone that a younger Audrey had fully admired. She was intelligent, strong, self-assured and fully herself even when things went wrong. That is what made her a hero in Audrey's eyes. In truth, she felt like she could use a bit of Violet's flair tonight. She didn't pull her hair up into the well known ribbon held ponytail, but she did put on top of her head a fun pair of goggles she had found online. She took a deep breath and gave one more glance into the mirror, the fairy lights dangling down her curtains twinkled in the reflections, glowing around her in a warm aura as if to say 'you got this.' This wasn't a time to think about busted pies and faults. Her arms stiffened at her sides. Right. She had this. She could do this. She could.
With newfound resolve she headed out to slip down the stairs. Everyone kept calling this her party--and it felt a little odd to be honest. She wanted it to be about all of them. Her and Hannah, and even if Si wasn't here at the moment, it was about him too, their home--a new beginning in a way, right? She didn't think it should be all about her. That was definitely something that made her fidget inwardly, but the instant she heard voices downstairs and smelled the food wafting up on the air-- the resolve became a back drop; she wanted to turn tail, run into her room and lock the door. Anxiety was doing somersaults in her stomach despite her best efforts, and she found herself muttering half-hearted affirmations beneath her breath like it was a combat. Well, she muttered until she saw color.
It was hard not to notice, it was the only thing not muted out in the sea of lights that Hannah and Marta had painstakingly and lovingly wrapped about the house in fantastical fashion. She didn't recognize the whoever was donning the costume with his slender frame and fair hair, so her curiosity piqued. Black Mary-Jane's quietly took their lead down the steps and as Audrey drew closer there was something ... familiar, about the costume of choice. "Oh!" It was a strike of lightning illuminating her memory. "Joseph and the Amazing Techni Color Dream Coat? The coat of many colors?" She trickled down, brushing by in a whisper of purple so she was at the landing to face him, dark hair and flushed cheeks. Laughter erupted from one of the rooms, and Audrey resisted the urge to glance back, instead admiring the the myriad of shades the stranger was draped in.
" I think? Maybe. It's... it's a nice costume, either way." The urge to fiddle with her goggles was stayed, and instead she offered a faint smile
