Re: [Gala, Capital: Burden & Damian]
Burden, he wasn't sure why he reckoned so certain that Damian wasn't going to be calling the cops on him, but he was real certain. He believed it in this gut-sure way that the babalawo had always told him to trust and, Burden, he did trust his gut more than he reckoned most folks would think was prudent. But it meant he was standing there and unworried about Damian making connections, if the boy made them at all. And, just in an effort to be real plain, it was worth saying that Burden wasn't even thinking about any of it none, not as he watched Damian perch up on the counter and swing his legs in a way that made Burden realize he found velvet plenty distracting. He was thinking on that as Damian's gaze dipped and raised, just as he was thinking that the boy had pretty lashes. "Thank you kindly for clarifying that you don't give a fuck. It would be real terrible if I misunderstood," he joked, and he made a belated sign of the cross over his chest, on account of cursing.
Now, Burden, he wasn't expecting a real direct response about Audrey. He'd asked the question in hopes of getting Damian's explanation, but he hadn't been expecting truth from the other boy. So, hip propped against the counter, he waited for whatever real witty thing Damian was going to say, and he was surprised at the response he ended up hearing. "I deny her for more reasons than that," he said smoothly and without needing to think on his honesty. "But, even should I find someone I was interested in," he went on, pale gaze locked and not a bit of hiding behind the words, "I would have to deny them and myself too, on account of my endeavors to minister." He reached for Damian's sleeve, low and at the forearm, waiting until the boy's shoes clicked on the tile to use the fabric to hold the boy in place a moment. "You get my meaning?" he asked, and then he let go the sleeve and walked toward the door, which he held open for Damian to come on and walk through. "Are you fixing to accompany me for the remainder of the evening?" He had a key to return, but he wasn't fussed about that.
