Re: log: caspar & dietre; an audition
Those first few seconds of silence were tense. Had he done well? Was Caspar unimpressed? Dietre’s suspense was ended by one simple question, which confused him for a moment before he understood what it meant. He smiled again as the realization came to him, wider than what was his norm, though there was nothing smug about it. The smile was one of pure satisfaction. He had gotten the job.
“I can get one.” He would go from the restaurant straight to the nearest tailor. Dietre didn’t have much money, but he was sure he had enough to at least get a quality tuxedo. It would likely deplete his savings, but now that he had a job he wasn’t too worried about such things.
Being hired after playing only one piece was an accomplishment, yes, but Dietre felt disappointment just the same. He wanted to play some more, get to know the piano and learn her ways. His desire to do so made him a little bolder than he normally would be, so he dared to ask, “...Would you mind if I played another piece?”
“It has been years since I’ve played an instrument this fine,” he went on to explain. “I’ve only had access to a keyboard and an old restored upright. I’m sure you can imagine the difference in the richness of sound between them.” Pale eyes were just this side of pleading as he looked over at Caspar, his fingers still lingering near the keys, eager to continue.
