Re: lakeside mansion; hugh c./theodore c.
"Yes," Theodore answered to the first question. He was, indeed, leaving. "Though, nothing is wrong, not on my end. And Elaine is all right, too. In fact, I rather think I'll be seeing a lot more of her, very soon." He leaned his walking stick against the wall and then seemed at a loss with what to do with this hands, so he clasped them in front of him, looking rather contrite.
"Remember," he started, "when we talked about what I might next do with my life? My next chapter, as it were?" He knew Hugh would; the question was rhetorical. "I thought that might be here in Repose for a time, but it seems like that next chapter has found me, instead." He withdrew the letter from the inside of his coat, and handed it over for Hugh to read. "The owl came yesterday morning." It was written on fine parchment, in a solid hand with just a few flourishes of personality shining through in green ink:
Mr Chambers-
I understand it has been several years since we last spoke, and that fact in itself gives me no right to call upon you for favors. However, I have come to know you by reputation as a man of upstanding moral character and, through your daughter, as a loving husband and an excellent father. It is because of these admirable qualities, and the breadth of knowledge you displayed in your former profession as a Curse Breaker, that I write you now, and ask that you accept the position of Professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts at Lindmarch Academy.
I realize this is sudden, as was the passing of our beloved Professor Sawbridge this past week. I assure you this was not due to occupational hazard; Arathusa had heart troubles that the mediwizards informed me had gone on for years, and sadly, her heart failed her in the end.
The appointment need not need permanent; if you only wish to assist us in finishing out the current term through June, I will understand. However, if you grow to like it, know that Lindmarch can once again be your home. I know how much it meant to you, being with us, when you were a student.
I look forward to a favorable reply, and if you cannot provide that, I understand. In either case, I ask that you would make it a swift reply, as well, so that the students' studies aren't disrupted for long.
All my best, and thank you,
MM, Headmistress.
P.S. I also wish to assure you that the position is no longer cursed. Arathusa held the position for the past six years without incident.
