Re: lakeside mansion; hugh c./dietre a.
Dietre winced a little, it really hadn’t been his intention to accuse Hugh of anything. “I’m not mad, it’s alright. It’s just--,” he sighed too, “Perhaps I am trying not to make friends.” He knew he couldn’t properly explain his feelings on this matter, but he’d make an attempt. “It is hard to let yourself get attached to people when you know you’re going to lose them…”
“I do want us to be friends.” Dietre felt his face grow hot for a second after his confession. Despite being sure it was doomed to end, he wanted a friendship with Hugh. Even though it’d hurt and he’d fall apart once it was over, he was too weak willed to be able to refuse it. “...I’m sorry that I’m not very good at conversation, and that I don’t have anything interesting to say, but if you’re willing to put up with me…” He trailed off, unable to articulate more, and ended the thought with an embarrassed shrug.
“It’s good that you’ve made more friends. I should probably try a bit harder too.” Maybe having been successful at making friends with Hugh would give him some motivation. He was definitely lacking in drive lately.
