Audrey had never fallen asleep at someone's house before, not even Marianne's. She had woken up to a friendly canine kiss on her face, at first assuming it was Zeus--and then she noticed the pillows, the unfamiliar blanket, the giant television screen in front of her. Disoriented she sat up to Heart's open mouthed smile, excited over the company apparently. She rubbed at her face with the sleeve of her sweater, groggy. What time was it? It had to be early, because her stomach was rumbling. She reached out, yawning, scratching behind the lab's sweet ears. "Thank you for waking me up, Heart." A tiny kiss to a cold wet nose.
She scooted off the couch, slightly embarrassed. She just fell asleep there without asking--not that her family would notice, they may noticed certain chores weren't done but...they could deal this once. Audrey made quick work of readjusting the pillows and folding the blanket. Hugh must have covered her, she smiled faintly at that It was sweet, gentlemanly. She really ought to thank him. Puckering her lips to one side she wandered. She knew he had shown her the kitchen the night before, but honestly the house was a maze. It could fit probably five of her own house, may be more. "...mmm, Heart, do you remember where the kitchen is?" The dog trotted ahead of her as if on cue, nails clicking along the floor and Audrey followed after--the lab went to her water bowl drinking happily.
The kitchen was bigger than she remembered last night, but--Audrey for once wasn't intimidated. Kitchens, libraries, and bookstores? They were where she felt most at home. So she went to work, pulling her slightly messy hair up into a high ponytail. It would be her way of saying thank you and I am so sorry I fell asleep at your house like this right? She worked in a blur. There was so much in his fridge, untouched and delicious, it overwhelmed her. Farm eggs? Did he realize what a treasure trove he carried in his cupboards? Churned butter? Hollandaise sauce came to the forefront of her mind and she knew exactly what she was making and went to work.
Audrey worked in a flurry as if she were at home, and was pretty much done when she heard the run of happy dog feet and a voice. Hugh. She turned around, there was a bit of sugar on her cheek and a clear coffee stain on her shirt--but the food was done. She became pink along the cheeks and neck. "Well, she did, but I was really grateful for it?" She offered sheepishly. "I am... I am so sorry, I just---I thought I'd thank you, for um, letting me sleep at your place and for the fun movies last night. I am so sorry I crashed, but um." She gestured to the table.
Eggs Benedict sat waiting beside cups of homemade affogato. A drink she was still trying to perfect, watching Ren hone his own craft with care, even the sugary, flavored drinks--his perfectionism was remarkable. Hers wasn't perfect, perhaps a little messy, but hopefully the taste would make up for it. "I...thought we could have breakfast together before I have to go home?" Her shoulders shrugged, and she held her left arm with her free hand. "I--I also have some left over ham, for Heart, if she's allowed to have a little." Audrey's eyes roamed back to the table bathed in sunlight.
