It's my area of study. Beat poetry. Like most of the things written in America during that time period. Were big on rejecting standard narratives and coming up with entirely new and non-conforming written pieces. Were heavily interested in spiritual quests, rejection of materialism, and being explicit and raw in literary depictions of post war life. Believed heavily in drugs and experimentation of all sorts. Was a liberated period of creation, and the works portray that. Like it. The travels in the book are raw and gritty. Real. Not pretty.
