Re: log: connie/atticus
"Hunting is a way of life out here." Connie nodded and she wasn't squeamish about that stuff either. It probably was because she had seen way more worse stuff than dead animals. Maybe because she kind of liked learning about it? In anatomy classes, she was always the one who was ready to cut the frog open or help put together an owl skeleton. Cleaning a gift rabbit and finding a bone that would make a good necklace was like arts and crafts to her.
Connie really liked the idea of having another girl around, the more she thought about it. Sometimes there were old ladies who stayed at the B&B or that one married couple (Connie got a weird vibe from that chick), but never anyone she could really talk to. Emily was probably...pretty weird, right? Weird was good. As for the trombone: "I'll figure out a good song to play her if she's skeptical."
She flipped through a few more pictures. Mostly of her and Patrick goofing off around the house, various pranks played on her little brother and stuff that real moms would have on their phone: graduations, birthdays, award ceremonies. One of the pictures, the science fair one where Patrick got a white "thnx for trying" honorable mention on a potato with a battery in it, looked a little off. Like there was a tall figure in a suit with a white, fuzzed out head looming behind the project. It could have been a trick of the light or just shitty blur. Either way, Connie didn't even notice it and put the phone away.
"He was going to be a cop, but stomping out campfires is way better than arresting people all the time. He'll teach boy scouts and help hikers get around. Much better for him." Connie's protectiveness over Patrick shined through when she talked about him. If anyone ever hurt him? They'd be dead. Connie wouldn't think twice about it.
She turned to slowly put her jacket on. "Lemurs. Oh! That's my spirit animal! The weird blue eyes! That's me!" Connie made two okay signs with her fingers and held them up to her electric blue eyes. "Well, if I ran a lemur sanctuary, I wouldn't be able to work here anymore. And, then who would play pranks here? Who would bake you cookies?" She winked and then zipped her blue jacket up, put on her shoes and smiled. "Thanks for the company, boss. I'm going to get back to work."
