Re: log: connie/atticus
"Wasn't ever that kind of teenager," he admitted, which probably wasn't surprising. This demeanor of his, it didn't happen overnight. "Wasn't much older than them. Probably shouldn't have been advising anyone." Which remained true, and his decision to leave teaching had been a good one. He liked kids, but he wasn't very good at leadership. This entire interaction on this couch was a sign of that. "Not very good at guiding anyone. If I was, I would've cautioned you for the past half hour. Didn't." Atticus understood himself, of that there was no doubt.
"Not sure if they did something worse. Seems like it. Skimmed some information on it, but would rather not get involved." He considered how he felt about seeing them again. "Glad they're in one piece. Happy's too strong. There's a difference between friendship and being a teacher. Glad, but not happy. Not worried. They all have good careers, seem to be doing well. Some anger, but trying not to get involved," he repeated. It was, it seemed, Atticus' life motto.
He wasn't surprised when the conversation came back around to Janus, but that was one thing he wasn't going to divulge. "Janus is a character. Know that's cryptic, and realize it probably makes you more interested. Don't be," he cautioned, but without any vehemence. "He's charming. Old, but charming. Don't let him charm you." But Connie was a smart kid, and Atticus wasn't too worried about her making a deal with the devil.
