Re: Second-hand Bookstore: Hannah / Audrey / Marta
Marta smiled when Hannah came back with the drink, and wrapped her hands around it, letting the warmth seep out into her fingers. The heat helped them relax, helped her relax, and for a moment she was able to just sit and let herself start to fit into the situation.
She could tell that the book Audrey handed over was well-loved, and she took it with the care it seemed to deserve. She wasn't sure how she felt about accepting something that was obviously so precious to someone else. She used both hand, almost as reverent as Audrey was, and blinked at the other woman once the book was steady and drawn in toward herself. "You're sure?" It seemed to be one of the only things she could say - to ask if Audrey really meant to hand over the book, even if it was only temporary.
Either way, she set it so-carefully on the table in front of her, nudging her steaming cup a little farther away to prevent any wayward splashes. She'd give it a closer look later, but for the moment she listened to Audrey and then Hannah talk about lights. As they spoke, she wondered if Derek might be okay with her putting a few lights up in the room where she was staying. She'd said it was Marta's home now too, but she still didn't want to be presumptuous. She'd only meant it to be a temporary situation - needing to find something quickly to get out of the transition house. But even though she'd only been at Derek's for a few days, it was already a very nice place, and she could see herself getting too comfortable too quickly, if she wasn't careful.
It took a moment for her to pull her attention back to lights and Christmas plans. She was smiling a little at the descriptions of Hannah's big and little trees, interested at Audrey's list of things to do. They'd never had a tree growing up, though she and Lip would sometimes walk around to see if they could find anyone that had put lights up. But since then, she'd never really celebrated any holidays. She wouldn't even know how to put up a tree.
So at the question, she just shook her head. "No plans."
