Re: Boathouse: Hugh & Atticus
"Will hope so too. Wouldn't mind reading your biography one day," he said honestly. Hugh had an interesting story to tell. Atticus was a big fan of non-fiction. Probably stemmed from his love of letter reading and letter writing. Could see it. Hugh already had an interesting past. Add a famous future, an interesting love affair. Would make for good reading a subsequent documentary. "If it happens, mention the guy on the island with all the good advice." Grinned. Was joking about that part.
Glanced toward the island. Toward the door at his back, anyway. "Not my choice. Think we've touched on the island and what it does to people. Sometimes, certain people. Rewinds them? About twenty years from now, I apparently turn into a pathetic drunk, and that pathetic drunk thinks running away from himself on an island is a good idea. Hence, me." Was the simplest way to tell the tale. Didn't think Hugh was going to call in the military, so felt safe enough. Owned the island outright, yes, was private property, but knew enough about the government to know they'd find a way on if they wanted one. "One minute, I'm teaching a class on Chaucer in 1999. The next, I'm here. Not really, though. Am still back there in 1999. Know it's convoluted."
Watched the dog lift her head. Might get a dog. Wasn't a bad idea. Companionship that actually breathed and acknowledged him during the cold months. "Agree. Think the foundation needs to be there." Grinned. "Think we sound like old men who are past our romantic-prime here?"
