Re: Shiloh F + Jack P: The Capital
Jack was rather used to being on the wrong side of other people's morals. Most of them involved a code of some kind and even if he'd been familiar with it, he probably would have crossed it regardless. It wasn't a nature thing. It wasn't even a nurture thing. Jack teased because Jack expected the world to play with sharp teeth regardless of whether or not he did or didn't, and he shrugged with a wary glance backward at whether movement was being made or not. "People don't, always, think it and put it out there. It's perfectly normal to seethe internally or count off the ways an acquaintance is a dick," he said, candidly and with the kind of smile that said he absolutely understood where he'd registered in the stranger's estimation. "I mean, some people do. But some don't. And if he sends someone, I'd very much like you to be gone."
Because he wasn't much of a savior himself. Sure, he'd meddled a couple of times but Jack was in this for Jack's own skin and his skin very much wanted to walk away whole. He wasn't going to sacrifice anyone, hello distinctly dark-shaded choices but he wasn't going to die saving somebody else, particularly if that somebody had called him a hypocrite at least twice.
"Wise," he said, of the fact Jack's trouble shoved into pockets wasn't his concern. He kept striding, a loping sort of long-legged walk that ate sidewalk in quick motion until they'd gone past the light with the blown circuit or bulb or whatever, conveniently or not it was dark. "Really, if I were you I wouldn't be talking to me at all-" But what hypocritical thing Jack might have said next was abruptly shortened by the actual firepower of the evening and a couple of things happened in quick succession. Somebody - small, blond, utterly unprepossessing threw something their way which streaked through air and Jack's response flared faintly blue, opening a little like an umbrella.
"I'd advise running. I'm going to do the same thing," he said, matter-of-factly, as the blond advanced and Jack waited long enough to see if the kid would take to his heels or not.
