Re: Shiloh F + Jack P: The Capital
Of course he was determined to do whatever it was he'd set out on doing. Capricious in alleyways. God, it had been a long time since Jack had been young enough to say fuck off to anything that resembled difficult choices. He was young now, but the difficult choices still laid themselves out for him like a particularly twisty fishhook designed to jam into soft spaces when he tried to pick it up. "Wouldn't stop you," Jack said idly. "I don't know, do you need creative suggestions?"
Jack was too sober for gestures. His shoulders were more expressive than his hands and he lifted them and dropped them, his mouth curled with the specific mischief of picking an argument with a pissant in an alley that nicely took his mind off the whole reason for the deal in the alley. The kid turned and put his back to Jack and he used the moment of distraction to flare a cigarette to light on a bit of blue flame that spat green sparks. Lighters failed, magic didn't and yes all right, he knew it was using in plain air but he didn't actually have the lighter. Smoke curled off his fingernails and the cigarette smelled warmly of cloves and tobacco.
"I didn't tell you to fuck yourself. If invective's on the table, I'm creative. Where did you intend to go, the alley?" He wasn't following him precisely, so much as the kid's path was near enough to Jack's own, and he paused briefly on the flags of the path to glance back into the bar. His gaze snagged on a face he definitely didn't want to see in a back-alley and Jack's steps were clipped and hastened after the guy. "Very wise. Always be where you're heading, d'you mind, I'm not chasing you down so much as running away. Without running. Never let them see you run," he said, as sagely as a man could while trying to appear effortless as his shoulder nudged ahead of the kid's on the sidewalk. "I'm just going to pretend temporarily we know each other, I've seen you whip out your penis in an alley, so argument's there we probably do, for as long as it takes for that man to move off there."
