Re: The Jaded/The Disaffected
Even if he'd never truly wanted for much, had never been starving and cold, the turmoil Nicky had known was more on a cosmic scale. Wars between gods and titans, between the Greek and Roman aspects of themselves, war with his fellow demigods. Almost losing himself to the darkness that his human side only just held at bay. Balance. Trying to find that balance was the roller coaster: easy as balancing a one-handed handstand on the front car while it was in motion.
Hey, validation. Nicky cracked a little smile. He wondered at the sincerity of a comment, but he didn't question it. Was happy to hear the words. To be agreed with and not challenged. He knew the challenge would come and it greeted him with the next words out of Emil's mouth.
"Most of us try to live normal human lives," he started his explanation. "We're not...our parents. They can be unknowable. Unreadable. They have all their own shit, with keeping the cosmos running and all. But occasionally, for whatever reason, they take time to fall in love with some human or another. I have a lot of cousins." Thought of the one, the son of Poseidon. The one he'd been so convinced he loved for so long. "They like to use us, because we can move easier in the human world. We're really more human, than god. But we have our gifts. The ring is...special. A reward. But there's plenty I can do on my own." Watched Emil as he said all this, certainly the most he'd talked in their short time together. Didn't expect expression, or belief. Knew all too well by then. But maybe, questions.
