She wished, momentarily that she had a bit of gin remaining in her glass so that she could lift it to her lips, and have an excuse to delay any potential gratification on his side. She could stay, of course. She suspected that if she demurred, he would move on. But the night threatened to be long and dull. She recognized the well-delivered lines, and the smile with which they were delivered, for precisely what they were, but she was bored.
She tapped a well manicured finger on the table. "Perhaps you have paid off the bartender to tell me what I wish to hear," but this was said with a hint of a smile on red lips. "Where did you have in mind, Mr. Waterhouse? Or do you intend to make that an unknown as well?"
