Re: The Schoolboy/The Witch
The smile that had come with the offer had been gentle, a co-conspirator's smile for doing something she knew others would disapprove of. But her people? They would have accepted him with a laugh and a clap on the shoulder -- it would be permitted without distaste. She tossed her piece of quartz onto the seat she'd just abandoned, strong, sure fingers grasping his as she brought him out of the seat.
"Oh, don't worry about that. Our feet will set the rhythm. I have to teach you the steps first, and then we'll try all at once. We should have another couple, but we can do it with the two of us. They call it a set, but it's a series of the same motion with our feet. Upper body straight and rigid. There are a few dances that require movement of your arms but I will save those for another time." She took a step back and looked him over since the first time she sat down.
"Our feet move in the same way, but we will be facing one another, so we will always fit together." Pivoting, she moved to stand beside him and after a moment's pause, she bent to unbuckle her shoes. "It will be better if we are barefoot for this. You will feel it easier. And once you know the steps you can do it with," she instructed and stood up again, slanting her feet, toes to her heel, and showed him the first four steps, one forward, and a pump of her calves to lift her onto the balls of her feet.
