Ms Jones-Foley's smile was tinged with relief. "I work for Mrs Bagby; she has a variety of interests, financial and manufacturing, and I follow in her wake somewhat. With notes and occasionally with other things, as needed. She's very good at what she does, keeping everything in all her companies humming, but of course that requires someone keeping her own business in tune, which is myself." She gestured with a gloved hand.
"May I ask what brings you aboard? Are you also on business, or are you fortunate enough to be travelling for leisure?" A luxury that Mary wished she could enjoy, but her position, and of course the financial situation that had required her to take it, meant she was unable to do so.
They might be, in theory, all suspects, but Mary saw no reason to suspect this man, not yet, and in any case it was worthwhile to be pleasant. Men and women of all sorts were on the train. There was power and danger here, and that was before you got to disappearance and possible murder.
