Re: The Lieutenant/The Daughter
Correction. He wasn't in a panicked state. Maybe she wasn't in a panicked state either, but he did notice her red nose. There were multiple reasons for a red nose, and he vaguely thought about them, but he didn't try to decide which of those reasons belonged to her. He was a guy that understood all about consumption, both male and female, and he wasn't unaware of how women were viewed. He wasn't oblivious to his own prior stupidities when it came to that kinda thing, but his ex-girl had liberated him of those ideas a long time ago. Not that it had made him a better partner, but that was water under the bridge. She wasn't coming back. He wasn't going to be able to fix things. His answer to things was to take a harder gig, climb the ranks, make more money and at least pay for his mistakes.
Which brought him here. Hand on this girl's side and that baggage door over her shoulder. "Yeah. I need to check on something. You can come if you want." What harm could it do? She'd already seen his metal, so keeping her close was a good idea. He didn't have any reason to think this whole mess was about his payload, but something did feel off to him. Way off. "Wanna?" He asked, jerking his chin toward the door. Her hand was inching toward the knob, so she might as well do the honors. Oh. And he moved his hand from her hip, now that he was sure she was steady.
