Re: Holly and Jack: Evans & Peel
Holly just gave the guy a look. "I'm too young to know how it really is?" he asked, because that was just how it was. "Look, everyone figures it out eventually, right? Santa Claus is a fake, and Tooth Fairy is just your parents, whatever, so I figured it out a little sooner than most people. I remember my mom telling me that everyone died, and the good people went to heaven, and the bad people went to hell, and I was, like, five, and I was sure I was going to hell. Life is hard. There's no point in being oblivious for a long time." Simple, and he believed it. I mean, he appreciated the hopefulness that Noah felt way deep, but he didn't feel that kinda positiveness himself. People bailed. That was just how it went.
He finished off his soda, and he hit the Juul again. "Well, to be fair? This entire town is Twilight Zone." He didn't add that it got more Twilight Zone every day. I mean, fuck an episode. This town was an entire season, the extended kind that went way too long before the season-ending cliffhanger, and with no hiatus between one season and the next.
Jack stood, after saying where the papers were, and Holly was more than willing to stand and follow. Whatever he felt about drunks? A bar was lucrative, especially in a town like Repose, where the general populace seemed to embrace Debbie Downer as a way of life. So, yeah, he followed in Jack's sloppy wake.
