Re: log: pizza and smash - mal and alex
"There is always that option," he said. He didn't notice any desperation. Really, he was just glad someone so nice seemed to have cottoned to him so quickly. He knew better than to trust someone right away, but his nose for trouble was highly developed by now. There wasn't a whiff on Alex, no more than the trouble of a hard life.
His gaze sharpened and focused in on Alex. He looked guilty about his sister, and it took him a moment to think the reasons through. "You look as if you feel bad about it," he said. "Why?" He could guess, but that wouldn't take him very far. He'd rather hear it from Alex himself. He had always felt responsible for his siblings, though he was hardly the oldest of them. They had all been very different people, but a few, the twins in particular, seemed destined to get into trouble no matter what. He had never worried about his parents, never thought for a moment that they would be the ones to have the lapse in judgement. Betrayal, however, was just so tricky to predict.
