Re: Island: Janus/Atticus
Wasn't concerned. Here. There. Wasn't concerned. Wasn't thinking about waking up, either. Was good at hunkering down and living in the moment. If something had a solution, why worry? If there was no solution, why worry? Was easier to fall back on those old and logical beliefs here. Off the island. Surrounded by books and quiet voices. Janus there, and a good conversation to be had. Was a good moment. Could appreciate moments. Had lost track of that somewhat on the island.
Stopped. Thought about POW camps. Thought about what he'd read. Had only second-hand experience. Literary experience. Wasn't the same as being there, and couldn't actually imagine it. "Can't even imagine that. How did you know you could make the deal?" Curiously.
Considered the heavenly hierarchy. Made sense. Had never thought of religion as a war, but there were the markers of it. Made sense. "Sounds like we're chess pieces. Not a far stretch, war. Think religious bodies have been at war forever. Everyone thinking they're on the correct team. Not sure there is one. Not sure we should live our lives waging their wars. But am not religious. Have seen dead people all my life, and still don't think there's a definitive heaven or hell. Think this life is what it's about for the living. Not what comes after." Nodded toward the book stack. "Thanks for this. Appreciate it. Not sure what my Plan B is, but this is a good break."
