"Reactions can be dick moves." Insisted, but in that lazy, Atticus way. No fire behind it. Wasn't fire behind anything Atticus said. Was all matter-of-fact, lazy observation. Impossible to tell how much, if any, heat was behind those hazel eyes.
But was interested in Janus' tick of head sideways. Hadn't seen it before. Or couldn't recall Janus looking at him that way. "Stories about building a house in the mountains. About camping. About meeting his wife while he was sweaty and covered in roofing tar. She was complaining about the noise he was making. About taking her dancing on that same roof once it was done." Grinned. "Sounded like such a normal life. Foreign concept, huh?"
