Re: log: adrian and ren - in the cottage
So focus. The wand was an instrument to focus with, and while Ren didn't have that kind of magical experience he knew that at times crystals, or other objects had been used - usually things that had some strong connection to magic in the first place, and he'd done that, if not for a long time, and certainly not exclusively. "Your will, and your focus determines whether or not a spell works?" Ren asked, clarifying that what he was hearing was correct.
"The Obscurus is part of you though," Ren noted. "So if you can feel it with that, and you can work with the Obscurus, instead of it taking over on its own..." It was all super hypothetical, suggestions that he didn't know if there was any real evidence for being accurate. He watched, alert both with his vision, but also in the energies in the room as Adrian shifted and changed. It wasn't new, and so Ren didn't shift to anything fearful - just alert as he watched.
"And what happens if you let it out? Is that what you did in the woods that night? Like, instead of trying to put a hole in the dam, if you let it out, is it just waves of water everywhere?" Using the dam analogy anyway. "I have this theory, and I don't know exactly how to put it into practice. That's the part I'm still stumbling over," Ren frowned slightly. "But it seems like resisting it makes it stronger, but maybe living with it- accepting it - eases it into something that you can.... I don't know if control is the right word, but it's not going to explode like it did before."
Ren reached for his own mug again and took a sip of it. "What you just did, do you feel better now, or worse? Or just the same?"
