Re: Quicklog: mal r/hugh m
[Hugh gives a quick grin back.] Most people have heard of Seattle, anyway. [He debates offering helping, because he doesn't know a thing about electricity or wiring, but he has put together enough sets over the years to know basic tools anyway. In the end he decides he might just be more work than help, and he takes another sip of his coffee.]
What sort of work did your father do? Seems like an odd switch from England to here, even the Capital. Because it is, as you say, the middle of nowhere. [There's a brief bit of hesitation, he doesn't love talking about his past, even if he's gotten better at not avoiding it.] For me that was part of the appeal -- initially anyway. I'd been a witness in a high profile murder trial back home, and my biological father offered to buy me a house somewhere. And I told him somewhere no one would know me. He sent me the keys to this place. [He laughs, glancing around the room.] You could fit like twenty of my Seattle apartments into this house, probably. [Eighteen, technically, but it's close enough.]
