Theodore nodded his agreement. "I have to confess, when I was growing up, I didn't really have a lot of interest either way. It came as something of a surprise to me." Though he'd known, with Jamie, it wouldn't have mattered if he'd been a boy or girl. He was just Jamie, and that's what, who Theodore had fallen in love with. He shrugged a little. "Representation matters, I think that's what they say a lot these days. And it needs to be..." He searched for the word. "Normalized, I suppose. There's a time and place for stories where the emphasis is on the character's sexuality, but I also thing there's also a need for characters who are just gay, or trans, or bi, whatever the case may be. And it's part of their character, but it's not their only reason for existing, you know?"
"Ah, well." Theodore sighed ruefully. "I think this qualifies, and it's...cringeworthy: I once had a teenage girl ask, that if Elena hadn't been adopted--that is, if male pregnancy was a thing--" He shook his head. "Which of her fathers would've carried her. It was a little bit uncomfortable, to say the least. As you can imagine." Two years on and he was still embarrassed by that; she might as well have been asking who was top and who was bottom. Nevermind the rest of the question.
