Hugh laughed, "I think I just made it sound like I have to be miserable to act well, and that's not entirely what I meant. I think it's more like... having emotional energy? I might be able to find the same energy when I'm in a really good place - I just..." he stopped, not certain how to say that he didn't think he'd ever exactly been in that place. Maybe for a brief moment at the start of the film, but that had crashed pretty quickly. "Anyway, god, people are idiots aren't they. I'm glad you could keep a sense of humor, anyway. It's nice to see it represented in a book. I don't think I ever read one like that when I was younger, and it would have been nice. It wasn't a surprise to me when I realized I really wanted to kiss that guy my junior year, but also - it would have been cool to see. I'm glad kids have more of that now."
He could see this and he nodded, there were times when he'd been reading through a script and trying to get into a character's head and he'd had a million questions for the author, and he'd frequently learned himself that having those open spaces was sometimes the place where he could really apply his art the best, but also he understood the desire to know it. "What's one of the most bizarre questions someone's ever asked you?"
