coffeeshop: ren solitaire & newt penhaligon WHO: Ren & Newt WHEN: Friday, as discussed. WHERE: Coffee/Bookshop SUMMARY: Ren promised Newt some tea, in return for some help with the trunk. WARNINGS: None suspected, will update if that changes.
If he were honest, he'd never been particularly good at focusing on more than one thing at a time. This was probably why he'd dropped off the face of the earth when he'd been with Louis, and why the plays tended to require all of his attention and sometimes he forgot to talk to anyone who wasn't working on one of them unless they demanded he do so. But right now Ren wasn't dating anyone, and he had no play and that meant that at the moment Adrian was the focus of his attention, for better or for worse.
It had gotten to the point where he'd almost contemplated writing his Uncle, and the only reason he hadn't done so was because he suspected he would have nothing useful to give - or alternatively that the negative and even harmful bits, could not be outweighed by anything he might gain in the exchange. This was admittedly, uncertain and unclear, but he wasn't yet desperate enough to ask.
There was still a lot he wasn't certain he understood about Adrian's magic, and he wasn't entirely certain how he would help in that regard, but he believed he could and right now that was enough. When he set his mind to it, all that focus could pull together something incredible, and it had been a while since he'd been this intellectually focused on anything that wasn't a script or theatrical criticism.
Ren was also smart enough to figure that Newt was one of his best allies in this. He seemed to understand the magic as well as anyone, and maybe better than most, and he seemed to be concerned about Adrian, and he was willing to do things to help - at least Ren was taking him at his word that he was - and so he'd taken seriously the notion of writing up some things that might help and he had them back in the back so they wouldn't potentially get spilled on or something else. When the bell on the door rang, he looked up, as he had every other time that morning, checking to see if it was Newt this time.
