Re: dock: atticus and mal
Never took himself seriously. Too much work. Too much trouble. Wasn't the type of man who sought trouble out. Fell in his lap sometimes, and sometimes he followed it when it did fall in his lap. Was curious. Couldn't help being curious, especially when something particularly academic came around. But, generally speaking, didn't go in search of anything which would make his life more difficult. Seriousness had a tendency to come with difficulties, in his experience. Wasn't really a good trait. Knew that by the time he became an old man he'd have a handful of regrets, really big regrets, as a result, but didn't focus on that. Was aggravating to know your own future and not be able to change it. Was its own torture. Avoided seriousness. Had enough torture going on.
"Not sure. If it is radioactive, they're not saying anything. Not surprising." Wasn't surprising. Everyone knew that military facility was up to no good with their testing, so why would the same organization tell anyone about radioactivity in the lake? "Might all be living in one big petri dish." Again, was joking, but didn't think the reality was too far off from the joke. Didn't look like any of it bothered him, though. Wouldn't grow old enough to sprout a third eyeball.
Chuckled. "Problem with tapes? Never cared for CDs." CDs had taken over about eight years before Atticus' last year home, but had never taken to them. "Always skipped in their players," he explained. "Prefer vinyl overall, but not particularly portable." Grinned. Again, lazy, lazy as if there were secrets beneath the line of his teeth. Perfect teeth, for the record. "Let me guess? MP3s? Spotify? Everything's Spotify now. Scrobbing." Shook his head. "Prefer tangible copies of my music. Prefer real books to Kindle, too, before you ask."
Shakespeare. Watched. Shook his head at the kid's not-knowledge of Sinead. Couldn't get away from her in 1999. Wasn't going to play her here. Considered her absence a boon. So, Shakespeare. "Not sure his weight distribution helps me crack it open. Does it?" A brow quirk.
