Re: [Recovery: Marta & Hannah]
Maybe at some point, Marta could learn how to be in the moment. She spent so much time thinking about the past, all the things that had happened to her, and all the things she'd done, usually to other people. She didn't especially want to think about those things, but they were what was left when she pushed down the things that would simply hurt too much to remember on a regular basis. So she could hide away memories from her childhood, and certain nights out in Hookerville, and other nights in the city, and long days when she worked at the motel. They still pushed up at the least wanted times, and everything felt a little more awful when they did.
But her doctor was trying to teach her about being in the moment. Not pushing other things down or hiding them away. But being aware of herself and the the things around her was a first so-small step to dealing with all the other stuff. There were sessions of meditation, and she'd just started fitting those into her schedule. They'd talked about the yoga classes too - moving her body and feeling the shift and the presence of it. She was... maybe looking forward to that part of things, at least.
It took a while for her to look back up at Hannah, but the other woman just sat and waited. It was quiet, and Hannah was patient, and Marta wasn't exactly certain how to deal with the silence. She was noticeably relieved when they started talking about the camera.
She didn't know that the camera wasn't Hannah's - if she had, she likely would have refused outright. It wouldn't have seemed right to her to take someone else's things when they didn't even know about it. But there was no reason for her to think that it didn't belong to Hannah, so she let herself be talked into it - if for no other reason than that she was a little curious to see what was already saved in the memory. Slowly, she set the camera down in her lap, close and in a way that it wasn't going to fall to the floor. She was careful with it, overly so, not wanting to do even the slightest harm to it. Only once it was secure did she look up again and nod. Still a little hesitant about it, but agreeing to take the camera. Temporarily.
