"Oh, I'd definitely have some words with my sixteen-year-old self," Hugh laughed. A lot of things changed from high school, and maybe that was always going to be true for anyone, although perhaps more for some people than others. He suspected that if Sebastian had been born with a silver spoon, and he and Theo had been friends because their fathers were, perhaps Theodore had been too, although he certainly didn't have the airs one might expect from someone with wealth. If anything, perhaps he reminded Hugh a bit of his biological father - eccentric maybe, but you'd never know he had wealth in his background until you were gifted a ridiculous house on a lake in the middle of nowhere.
"True friends can be difficult to find, and maybe particularly this is true when you have a large group of admirers and acquaintances," Hugh was thoughtful, thinking about most of his own friends in Seattle - almost all of them had disappeared during the trial. "It sounds like both of you maybe had a case of a little possessive, if he didn't approve of Jamie," Hugh ventured. "What were you like at sixteen? Because I see quiet, easily enough, but the little shit part, is actually throwing me for a loop."
