Re: [Diner: Aleksi, Hannah, Si]
Pale eyes, red-rimmed and heavy-lidded, shifted from Amy's coffee cup, to Amy, to Aleksi. Si continued to scour the tabletop with granulated sugar, unaware, obviously, that anyone could smell the sweetness ground down. He cleared his throat as Amy talked, explaining her friend had asked her to ask without actually asking her. His brows went up in obvious skepticism of whoever this was his sister was talking about.
By the time she explained the girl's babydaddy getting her a room at the 'hospital,' Si had figured out, he thought, that the 'hospital' was something more along the lines of rehab—maybe a psych ward. It would make sense with everything else Amy was offering by way of few-and-far-between details. It would explain why this friend was tentative about contact, and maybe why she couldn't do it herself.—Si looked away as the waitress came back with the coffees, and refilled Amy's. He took a cup, and with the broken-open sugar packet, he sweetened the drink. He dipped the tip of his finger into hot water, to let the sugar there dissolve.
"Unless you know what's going on between these people," he said after a moment, "I wouldn't."
