I don't think he will learn it in there, and I don't believe he deserves being treated the way he is either. However, it is dangerous, actually. The Obscurus. Especially when he can't control it. It's magic gone malignant. Normally, it kills those who harbour it. It's dangerous, not just for us, but for him as well. If he can find a way to channel it and achieve a sort of release, that isn't in the form of an explosion, I think he'd be much happier. I've offered to help him, but he's not taken me up on it. That said, when he's in the Obscurus state, he can be talked down. I've done it a number of times. But, most react with immediate fear, which only provokes. The truly unfortunate thing is that he's now tied up with this facility, and they only want to know what it is he can do. He's as a science experiment. Which, I'm sure, only makes him feel all the worse about it. I think it'd be best to remove him from the premises entirely, but it is his choice, whether I agree with it or not.
