Re: floating above; malefactor/the boss
He took the hot dog from the vendor and ate it over the pavement, hunched and careful. He took the coke only with a napkin for a buffed against a risk of condensation.
"You can't," he observed, mouth half-full. She wasn't the type to talk with her mouth full, but he was, and they were working in tandem. Lucky for her, he was used to this kind of thing. "You're vain yourself, so there's no point."
He rolled his eyes. A child. "Old men always think they know so much," he said. "Call me what you like" There was no point refuting it, really. Saying you weren't a child was a good way to make yourself look that much more young and stupid. He knew what he was about. He had convictions, and he had a cause. That was all that mattered.
The witch looked at the businessman. "Is there anything you don't know?" he asked. "Your knowledge of everything seems so complete, I don't know how much there is for anyone to say." He sucked on his coke and polished off the hot dog with alarming speed. He had forgotten to eat, and he failed to realize it until there was food in front of him. How long had it been? Days? "You don't seem like the type of man who thinks small," he observed drily, of the silver pinstripes and the assured stride.
